We’re starting to see college players profit off their name, image, and likeness with what are called NIL deals.
Over the summer, 7News reported about the NCAA’s new policy that allows college athletes to monetize their social media accounts, sell merchandise, or even star in ad campaigns.
Now, a DMV product is taking advantage. George Mason Forward Josh Oduro signed a NIL deal over the summer with Jim McKay Chevrolet. This is something we thought we’d only see with big-time college athletes at big-time schools
Josh has proven any college athlete on almost any level can do this.
“One of the biggest things about this Fairfax community is the community. And so being able to reach out to community businesses and work with them and become partners with them, that’s huge. So it doesn’t matter if you’re at a Power 5 school or a low major school you can reach out and work with anybody in the community," Josh said.
One part of the deal is that Josh will have to wear Jim McKay attire at all of his press conferences.
Just to be clear, Josh is not getting paid by the school. That’s still against the rules.
