The Chicago Blackhawks earned their first win of the preseason last night and almost no one was able to see it. The Blues and Blackhawks played the second of back-to-back preseason games at the home of the Kansas City Mavericks, an ECHL club affiliated with the Stockton Heat in the AHL and the Calgary Flames in the NHL. The Game was held in Independence, Missouri without any TV or radio broadcast available to Blackhawks fans. So what? Is this the mid-2000’s again?
• Luckily a stream the NHL said was geo-locked only to St. Louis-area viewers worked for me and others clearly outside of the St. Louis-area.
It’s beautiful and it’s NHL ready!

• Not a bad barn for an ECHL club.
• Without local reporters or broadcasters in the arena, it was the online community’s time to shine for grabbing the Blackhawks highlights. Shoutout to the Twitter account @Chi_Prospects!
Henrik Borgström’s (#13 in white) goal! Does a nice job forcing a turnover, and fires it home. 1-1. #Blackhawks #HockeyTwitter pic.twitter.com/NxspVlscDX

• Last night’s contest was a showcase for the players on the bubble of making the NHL roster. Getting the Blackhawks on the board first was Henrik Borgström, but blink and you might miss it.
Here’s Colton Dach’s (#28 in white) goal! I believe that Adam Gaudette (#11) got the primary assist and Brett Connolly (#20) got the secondary assist. #Blackhawks #HockeyTwitter pic.twitter.com/cXa8yInfGZ

• After signing his entry-level deal earlier this week, Colton Dach scored his first goal as an official member of the Blackhawks organization to put Chicago ahead 2-1 late in the first period. Adam Gaudette, another on the bubble NHLer, tallied the primary assist.
Here’s MacKenzie Entwistle’s (#58 in white) goal! Jujhar Khaira (#16) get the primary assist, Jakub Galvas with the secondary assist (#76, great job to keep the puck in the offensive zone). #Blackhawks #HockeyTwitter pic.twitter.com/OHf9T68Id8

• Blink again and you might miss it, but that’s MacKenzie Entwistle scoring his first goal of the preseason at the net-front from a behind the net pass from Blackhawks newcomer Jujhar Khaira to put Chicago up 3-1 in the second period.
Here’s Mike Hardman’s (#86 in white) goal from earlier. Henrik Borgström (#13) gets a primary assist on his goal. (Once again sorry for the bad quality). #Blackhawks #HockeyTwitter pic.twitter.com/mTyUYtZ9xy

• Late in the second period, you guessed it, another “on the cusp of the NHL” player for the Blackhawks got on the scoresheet as Mike Hardman, fresh out of COVID protocol, extended the Blackhawks’ lead to 4-1 over the Blues. Borgström getting the assist for his second point of the game, too.
Here’s Dominik Kubalik’s (#8 in white) goal. Kirby Dach (#77) gets the primary assist. (I apologize for the bad quality). #Blackhawks #HockeyTwitter pic.twitter.com/M6Be5ZMq4K

• Cruising through the third period, the biggest thing for the Blackhawks at this point was making sure no one got hurt. But for Dominik Kubalík, it was a good time to net his second goal of the preseason with a relatively soft shot. Likely a shot through the screen of the defenseman. Nevertheless, the Blackhawks would go up 5-1 and that is how it would finish. Malcolm Subban played the entire game, allowing just the one goal, but no idea how many shots he faced since the official NHL box score says he only faced one and it went in….seriously, look at this box score. Was no one from the league even at this game? Was this game even real? Am I real?
• Following the 5-1 win, the teams decided to do a shootout for fun. The Blackhawks won that too.

• The Blackhawks are back on the ice today for another day of training camp before heading to Detroit to take on the Red Wings for their second meeting of the preseason. This will be a lighter training camp day for the Blackhawks after the team cut their roster in camp from 61 players to 49 yesterday.
• On Thursday we had a lot trio of Blackhawks birthdays. Well guess what? How about a QUAD Blackhawks Birthday treat today!
Quad-box!

• No, your eyes are not deceiving you, that’s Alex Nylander’s Dad, Michael, in the No. 92 Blackhawks sweater from back in the day.
• As EA Sports continues to roll-out their top rated players in NHL22, we are seeing a couple more Blackhawks falling in the top ten at their positions. After Marc-André Fleury was the fourth-highest rated goaltender, Patrick Kane was named the highest-rated right wing in the game, tied with Tampa Bay’s Nikita Kucherov!

• Chicago actually landed both Kane and Alex DeBrincat inside the top ten at the right wing position, with DeBrincat ranking seventh at the position with an 88-overall rating.

• While Kane was the highest-rated at the position, does he have his own pasta like the third-highest rated player David Pastrnak apparently does? I didn’t think so.

• I’d try it.
• While the Blackhawks are off today, the Cubs play their final game of the season, and the Bears take on the Lions, maybe the wildest event in sports today comes from the AL Wild Card race.

• Having no rooting interest in any of the teams involved, I am rooting for the ultimate chaos.
• That will do it for today, hope you all enjoy your Sunday!
