The Buffalo Bills announced their inactives for Week 4 against the Houston Texans but entered the weekend already knowing of at least two players who would not be available. Starting safety Jordan Poyer is dealing with an ankle injury and he was ruled out on Friday.

This is only Poyer’s second game he has missed with the Bills since joining the team in 2017. The expectations are that he will be replaced by Jaquan Johnson but the coaching staff may also try to rotate rookie Damar Hamlin into the game.

The other player who was ruled out on Friday is starting guard Jon Feliciano, who is dealing with a concussion. He is likely to be replaced by Ike Boettger, who was a starting guard for the Buffalo Bills in the second half of last season in place of Cody Ford.

Taron Johnson inactive for the Buffalo Bills

One surprise for the Buffalo Bills though is slot corner Taron Johnson being inactive for this weekend’s game. There seemed to be a chance that he might miss this week after being listed as questionable and then the news on Saturday of the Bills elevating Cam Lewis seemed to increase those chances.

Johnson has been playing great this year with one sack, one forced fumble and five passes defended. He has been a key part of the Bills’ defense and while this creates a great opportunity for Cam Lewis, he has a big role to fill on this defense in place of Johnson.

Changes along the defensive line for the Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills also made some changes along the defensive line with Vernon Butler being inactive this week. The defensive tackle has been a part of the rotation through the first three weeks and that work would now likely go to Harrison Phillips, who is inactive for the first time since Week 1.

In addition, the Buffalo Bills are likely to give Boogie Basham his first chance at NFL regular season snaps. The Bills second round pick has been inactive every game this season but he will now get a chance to play with Efe Obada inactive.
