The Los Angeles Lakers point guard depth chart was turned upside down this NBA offseason. The team moved on from Dennis Schroder, who was the starting point guard last season. His backup, Alex Caruso, is also no longer with the team. He signed a free-agent deal with the Chicago Bulls.

Taking their place will be three new faces, one familiar and two new ones. Russell Westbrook will be the starting point guard after being acquired in a trade from the Washington Wizards. He is excited to be back home and playing for the purple and gold.

Backing him up will be Kendrick Nunn, who left the Miami Heat to sign with the Lakers in free agency. Joining him in the backcourt off the bench in support of Westbrook will be Rajon Rondo.

Rondo is returning to the Lakers after a one-year hiatus. He helped the team win the NBA title in the 2020 Orlando Bubble but departed in free agency after that. He spent the 2020-21 season with the Atlanta Hawks and Los Angeles Clippers.

Rondo was then traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in the offseason, but he didn’t stay there very long. He was eventually bought out and signed back with the Lakers. He will once again be coming off the bench for the team and recently touched on the competitive nature he and Westbrook share.

That kind of attitude will help this team get to the level that it needs to so that they can win another NBA Championship. Practices are going to be hard-nosed and tough as players will be vying for spots in the rotation on what is a very deep roster.

Rajon Rondo and Russell Westbrook will assuredly be two of the guys setting the tone on this veteran-laden roster. Along with LeBron James, they will set great examples for the young guys to follow to help them grow and develop throughout the season.
