Chiefs Rumors: Josh Gordon Could Be Activated for Week 5 After Impressing Staff

Josh Gordon has received rave reviews since joining the Kansas City Chiefs and reportedly could be in games as soon as next week versus the Buffalo Bills, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

"He was described looking like a No. 1 receiver, 230 pounds and fast," Rapoport reported. "One source said you would never know he's 30. He has really flashed in practice."

Gordon, who last played in 2019, signed with the Chiefs last Monday after being reinstated by the NFL. He had been suspended indefinitely for violating the league's substance-abuse policy, the sixth suspension of his career.

Gordon also appeared in Fan Controlled Football in March, which might have helped with his conditioning heading into his NFL return.

"He looks in pretty good shape," Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said. "He's got less body fat than I do."

The addition could give the Chiefs another offensive weapon for quarterback Patrick Mahomes behind Pro Bowlers Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. Mecole Hardman and Demarcus Robinson have been unable to step up as a third option, combining for just 17 catches through three games.

The passing attack will be especially important this season considering the defense's struggles so far, allowing the second-most points in the NFL. Last year's AFC champions are just 1-2 heading into Week 4.

Mahomes acknowledged the impact the 6'3" Gordon can make in the offense.

"He's a big receiver," Mahomes said this week. "Even if he's covered, he's not covered. You can kind of throw it up there and he can make plays."

Gordon totaled 27 catches for 426 receiving yards in 2019 during his 11 games split between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks. His 15.8 yards per catch would have ranked 12th in the NFL if he qualified, while his 17.2 career yards per reception ranks second among active players behind only DeSean Jackson.
