Lane Kiffin taking heat after early aggressiveness backfires vs. Alabama
Lane Kiffin came out fired up against Alabama on Saturday. Perhaps he came out too fired up.
After dropping the mic during his pregame interview with CBS, Kiffin’s offense turned it over on downs on its first 2 possessions.
Later in the first half, he went for it on 4th-and-1 again and the Rebels failed to convert on an option play.
The aggressiveness is something fans will appreciate, but when it doesn’t work, it puts the defense in bad situations.
As the first half wore on, fans took to social media to call out Kiffin for gambling too much:
You know when you start playing angry at the blackjack table? You make emotional bets when your down…that’s Lane Kiffin right now.#OleOut #olemiss #Bama

Alabama defense stops Ole Miss on another fourth down. It looks like Lane is overthinking this game.

The aggression from Lane is no longer paying off. He's going to regret going for that one.

@Lane_Kiffin coaching like he's playing madden going for it on every 4th down. Damn fool

These young arrogant coaches like Lane Kiffin, Dan Mullen and a few others will never win championships always going for it on 4th down and trying to press. Be smart and patient. What message does that send to your defense. You put them in bad situations.

Lane Kiffin is playing Alabama like a child playing Madden, going for every 4th down no matter what

Now that the Rebels are in a hole, it’s probably safe to say Kiffin is going to have to gamble even more in the second half. We’ll see if that ends up working out, or if the Rebels dig themselves a deeper hole against the No. 1 team in the country.
