It was a team effort that got the Stripers a win on Friday evening.

Only the Gwinnett Stripers were in action on Friday evening as this Atlanta Braves minor league season draws to a close. The Stripers’ offense took advantage of some defensive miscues in addition to getting strong offensive performances from Shea Langeliers and Johan Camargo. As this is my last minor league recap of the season, I want to take another opportunity to thank my fantastic minor league staff Garrett Spain, Wayne Cavadi, Gaurav Vedak and Matt Powers. I could not ask for a better group of guys to work with. Here is the recap of last night’s action.

Gwinnett Stripers 7, Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 2

Box Score

  • Shea Langeliers, C: 2-4, 2 2B, RBI
  • Travis Demeritte, RF: 3-4, 2 2B, .952 OPS
  • Johan Camargo, 3B: 1-3, HR, RBI, BB, .956 OPS
  • Kyle Muller, SP: 3 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 8 K, 3.39 ERA

Kyle Muller had a wild, short, but largely effective start for Gwinnett as the Stripers secured a 7-2 win over the Jumbo Shrimp on Friday evening. Muller battled command issues with his fastball (not to mention a strike zone that was, at times, suspect), but his breaking ball was getting a lot of swings and misses and the contact quality against him was poor overall. Unfortunately, poor luck and tough calls from the home plate umpire drove his pitch count up and led to an earlier exit than he would have liked. Fortunately, the Gwinnett bullpen crew of Chasen Bradford, Touki Toussaint, Jesse Biddle, and Yoan Lopez combined to give up just one run the rest of the way with seven strikeouts.

With the pitching staff doing their jobs, the Gwinnett Stripers rose to the challenge that was hitting against top pitching prospect Max Meyer. They did get some help from some REALLY suspect defense from the Jumbo Shrimp that led to a couple good innings for Gwinnett and once the Jumbo Shrimp bullpen got to work, the Stripers bats came even more alive. Johan Camargo connected for his 19th homer of the season and both Shea Langeliers and Travis Demeritte connected for a pair of doubles in the game. Yolmer Sanchez added a two-run triple to get in on the fun as well.
