Bayern Munich had multiple positions to address in the squad during the summer transfer window. The right-back position was one of the areas where Bayern looked to strengthen, but eventually, they settled for the current options in the squad.

Benjamin Pavard is an undisputed starter in the right-back position. In the long run, the French international reportedly wants to play in the heart of the defense. As of now, Julian Nagelsmann has been using him as a right-back.

Meanwhile, Josip Stanisic has been included in the first-team squad as the second-choice right-back option. The Croatian defender excelled in the few games he started at the start of the season when Pavard was nursing an injury. Bouna Sarr is struggling for playing time as he becomes third choice right-back in the current squad.

The German Champions were looking to move Sarr on during summer and bring another right-back. Juventus full-back Danilo was reportedly one of the transfer targets for Die Roten in this position. While talking to Repubblica (via iMiaSanMia), Danilo confirmed that Rekordmeister was genuinely interested in signing him, but he wanted to stay in Turin.

The Brazilian full-back would have added more experience to the squad, but financially it wouldn’t have been a feasible deal for Rekordmeister. The Italian club would have demanded a much bigger fee for Danilo since he is one of the key players in their squad.

Moreover, Bayern will be better served by having younger options in the right-back position. Apart from Danillo, Die Roten was also linked with Barcelona’s Sergino Dest. The US international was a top target for Rekordmeister in 2020, but he eventually moved to the Spanish club. Barcelona’s financial struggles in the summer led to speculation about Dest’s future, but he ended up staying in Spain.

The Bavarian club was also linked with Jonas Hofmann late in the transfer window. The versatile German forward can also operate at right-wing back. After the end of the transfer window, Hofmann confirmed talks with Die Roten and refused to rule out a move from Borussia Monchengladbach next summer.

For now, Rekordmeister should wait and see how Stanisic progresses during his first full season with the first team. If he performs well, then Rekordmeister may halt their search for a new right-back. They may have to look for one when Pavard permanently moves in the heart of the defense. Meanwhile, the German club will definitely look to move on Sarr when the winter transfer window opens in January.
