Out of the countless new games that are being released every day there are a few titles that seem to catch people's attention more than others. One of these is Tuyoo Games' latest release, Magnum Quest. This 3D Strategy Idle RPG has already over a million downloads on Google Play Store alone in just a bit over a month since its release on 10th of August and it just received a new update. Given this chance, we dove into the game to see what it’s all about.

What is Magnum Quest?

First things first, the story begins in a world clearly inspired by Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) themes. The character design, the animation along with the story line and of course the narration, come together nicely to give that D&D feeling right off the bat.

Players have to put together a team of heroes and conquer their enemies as they embark on an adventure across many different chapters and claim the rewards. The main mode is of course the Campaign, but as they go on to clear new battle stages, various different game modes and events become available.

Veterans of the genre will appreciate the plethora of different heroes, each with their own strength and weaknesses and a distinct role, as they come up with their own unique battle strategies to defeat the enemies.

As for the ones who are trying a game like this for the first time, Magnum Quest does a good job introducing the different game mechanics to new players without overwhelming them.

On a side note, Magnum Quest also boasts some fantastic voice acting talent, with the likes of Laura Bailey (Dragonball Z, Naruto, Claymore, Bleach), Matthew Mercer (Critical Role), andRobbie Daymond (Marvel Disk Wars: The Avengers, Attack on Titan) lending their voices to Magnum Quest’s heroes.

Strategy and team choices

Just like in a card game, strategy is a big part of the Magnum Quests overall gameplay. Coming up with the best possible teams based on the heroes at your disposal is the key to advance.

Magnum Quest is a game that focuses on hero matching strategies. There's a total of six factions in the game, and every hero belongs to one of them. Between each faction, there's a mutual restrain relationship as follows:

  • Fortress restrains Wild
  • Wild restrains Forest
  • Forest restrains Shadow
  • Shadow restrains Fortress
  • Divine and Abyss restrain each other

Putting together heroes of the same faction in the battlefield, will provide additional attribute bonuses.

  • Heroes of the same Faction grants a 10% Attack and Health bonus.
  • Heroes of the same Faction together with 2 Heroes of the same Faction , give a 15% Attack and Health bonus.
  • Heroes of the same Faction on the battlefield give 15% bonus Attack and 20% bonus Health
  • Heroes of the same Faction on the battlefield give 25% bonus Attack and Health

How to use your heroes

Of course simply putting together heroes of the same faction isn’t the answer to everything. Players need to find the right balance between damage and defense when they assemble their teams. As in every game with RPG elements, heroes have different roles and stats and a place on the battlefield.

Typically characters that can absorb damage (Tank) go to the frontline of the formation, while the ones whose role is to do damage (DPS) or heal (Support) stay in the back. It’s up to the players to find the ideal formation for their team strategy and place their favorite characters accordingly.

Playing Magnum Quest definitely gives you that feeling of progression at the beginning. There’s a lot of stuff to do and the Auto-battle feature allows you to play this game even if you don’t have a lot of free time. With that being said, this isn’t a ‘speed-run’ like game but a game that can keep you busy for a long time.

Magnum Quest is free-to-play and available to download from the App Store and Google Play.
