One of the most well-known Maryland alums is ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt, so with a crucial Friday night showdown upcoming for the Terps vs. No. 5 Iowa, he had to let his allegiances be known.

The SportsCenter anchor paid homage to the Terps by singing the Maryland fight song at the end of the Winner$” segment with Stanford Steve:

Undefeated Maryland dropped its uniform combo ahead of the massive conference clash and it’s going to be a blackout. Maryland will also sport special helmet decals for mental health awareness for the primetime matchup.

Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa is off to an excellent start this season, amassing 1,340 yards and 10 touchdowns with one interception. The high-powered Maryland offense is averaging 37.3 points per game.

The Maryland defense will be without linebacker Branden Jennings, who leads the team in tackles. Head coach Mike Locksley announced Jennings’ absence Thursday.

Maryland-Iowa is slated for Oct. 1 (8 p.m. EST) and will be televised on FS1.
