Tax Office to mail property tax statements today
The 2021 Tax Statements for Stephens County, Breckenridge Independent School District, the City of Breckenridge, and Stephens Memorial Hospital District are scheduled to be mailed out today, Oct. 1, 2021, according to information from Christie Latham, the Tax Assessor-Collector/Elections Administrator for Stephens County.
The statements are blue this year and anyone who does not receive their 2021 tax statements within the next few weeks should contact the tax office at 254-559-2732 to see if there is some kind of problem with their account(s). Upon receiving the statement(s), property owners are asked to look them over to be sure that they have received a statement for each piece of property that they are responsible for, whether personal or business. It is the responsibility of the taxpayer to be sure all real property, minerals, or business property accounts are included, Latham said.
The taxes listed on the statement will be due by January 31, 2022, so property owners have from now until then to pay them without any penalty and interest.
Also, Latham noted, those who have been paying into escrow all year long for your 2021 taxes will get their statements a little. The Tax Office will first apply all escrow payments and then send out updated balance due statements.
