Two Kings Casino in Kings Mountain to add 500 more slots

Three months after opening a temporary spot to play the slots, the Catawba Nation has decided to double down on the investment with an expansion. 

Currently offering gamblers a choice of 500 slot machines, the Catawba Two Kings Casino should have a total of 1,000 by the end of the year. 

Located on 17 acres of land at 538 Kings Mountain Blvd., Kings Mountain, the temporary casino opened on July 1. 

Comprised of single-story modular units, the current facility offers about 14,700 square feet of gaming space, office areas and a snack bar. 

Organizers announced at the grand opening that work would soon begin on the first stage of the permanent building adjacent to the temporary one, but the success of the all-slots modular operation has prompted the extra step. 

“With the overwhelming success of the Catawba Two Kings Casino’s pre-launch facility since opening, it makes sense to work as quickly as possible to provide additional gaming opportunities for our patrons across the Charlotte region,” said Mike Ulizio, president of the Catawba Nation Gaming Authority.

Initial site work on the addition began in September. The expansion will be attached to the current facility and is expected to be completed by the end of the year. 

The additional project will not derail the overall vision, according to a statement from the tribe Friday morning. 

“The Catawba Nation and its consultants – including hospitality and gaming company Delaware North, SOSHNY Architects and developer Skyboat Gaming – are simultaneously continuing planning and development work on the permanent casino resort project. The timing for construction of that project is also being determined,” the statement said. 

Prior to opening, more than 200 people were hired to run the current casino. 

Through several phases, the complete project is anticipated to be a $273 million full casino resort which will feature slot machines, table games, restaurants and other amenities.

The Catawba Two Kings Casino is located near Exit 5 off of I-85. 

It is open 24 hours a day with smoking only permitted in designated areas outside. 

All employees are required to wear a mask, and guests are encouraged to wear them. Disposable masks are available.
