Grade the Bengals’ performance vs. Jaguars

The Cincinnati Bengals are off to a 3-1 start to the season following a 24-21 second half comeback win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night.

The Bengals didn’t get off to a great start as they struggled to move the ball on offense, and the defense wasn’t playing up to the level we had seen through the first 3 weeks.

However, despite all of the struggles, the Bengals found themselves down just 14-0 at halftime.

The start of the second half is when the team we expected to see showed up.

Joe Burrow and the offense got the ball to start the third quarter and on the second play, Burrow once again linked up with Ja’Marr Chase for a 44-yard completion down to the Jacksonville 25.

Two plays later, Burrow went back to the air, hitting tight end CJ Uzomah for the 22-yard touchdown, making it a 14-7 ballgame.

With the momentum, the defense stepped up and forced a big three and out giving the ball back to Burrow and the offense.

Burrow led the Bengals right back down the field again putting together a 12-play 86-yard drive that ended with a 1-yard touchdown rush from Joe Mixon, making it 14-14.

Following a long touchdown drive by the Jaguars to retake the lead 21-14, the Bengals offense seemed almost unstoppable. They relied on Burrow and the passing game, and he delivered another drive that was capped off with a 31-yard touchdown pass to Uzomah for his second of the game.

Despite the defensive struggles at times, they stepped up when it mattered the most and forced a punt giving Burrow just over five minutes to go win it.

That is exactly what he did leading them down the field and getting into field-goal range. Rookie kicker Evan McPherson drilled a game winning field goal as time expired for the second time this season and gave the Bengals a 24-21 win.

It was a big game for Burrow as he completed 25/32 passes for 348 yards and two touchdowns leading a second-half comeback.

Joe Mixon led the way on the ground with 67-yards and a touchdown on 16 carries.

Through the air, several players caught passes but the leaders were Tyler Boyd who had nine receptions for 118 yards, CJ Uzomah with 5 catches for 95 yards and two TDs. Ja’Marr Chase hauled in six catches for 77-yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, Logan Wilson led the way with 10 total tackles (four solo), one tackle for loss, and a sack.

It was an excellent second-half performance for the Bengals and a solid performance overall.
