The Charleston County Public Library is partnering with Trident United Way, Dorchester County Library and Berkeley County Library System to promote the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program. The program has a new look and rewards. The Charleston County Public Library encourages all families and caregivers to read 1,000 books with their child before they start kindergarten. This nationwide challenge is a fun and free program that puts children on the path to success. Reading aloud to children from birth helps strengthen language skills and build vocabulary – two important tools for learning to read. This joint effort to promote the program with community partners is called Tri-County Read United. By joining together, we are working to increase registration and community awareness about literacy needs and gaps in the Tri-County area. CCPL will have a table with registration for 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten at the kick-off event at Otranto Road Library as well as several different stations with early literacy activities.
