Minot Public Library to offer genealogy program Oct. 5

One topic that is always popular at the Minot Public Library is genealogy, according to information provided by Joshua Pikka, technology coordinator. People of all ages come to the library to research their ancestors on Ancestry Library Edition, or look for obituaries from the microfilm archives. On Oct. 5, at 6 p.m., two library staff members will host a program that will help genealogy researchers use technology to spruce up their family tree.

“Getting your information is sometimes the most fun part of genealogical research,” Information Specialist Debbie Chappo said. Chappo will be showing off databases like Ancestry Library Edition and other ways that researchers can gather their genealogical information using technology.

“Technology has made a big impact on how people are doing their genealogical research,” said Pikka. “Once you have your family’s information there are a lot of different ways to use technology to display your information.” Pikka will be showing off ways to use the technology that the library offers to improve your family tree, such as their poster printer, image editing software, and more.

All are invited to the library for this free event. People can call the library at 852-1045 for more information.
