On Wednesday night, Edsel Ford welcomed in Lincoln Park for a Downriver League position-round battle. For the second time this season, the Thunderbirds faced off against the Railsplitters. In the first meeting, Edsel came away with a five-goal win at Lincoln Park back on Sept. 13.

This time around the T-Birds came away with an 8-0 mercy victory over the visiting Railsplitters. With the win, Edsel (13-1-1, 8-0-1 DRL) remained undefeated in league play and currently sits atop the DRL as the No. 1 seed.

In the first half on Wednesday evening, the home team exploded for six goals before halftime and then netted two goals in the second half to wrap up the game via the eight-goal mercy rule.

“We know that Lincoln Park is a good team and we know that we have to get on top of them early,” said Edsel coach Hussein Beydoun. “I was very impressed with the way that we started because we had a lot of games where we turned it up only after halftime.

“We know that they were going to be looking for revenge. We made sure we didn’t give them any hopes of revenge with the way we started the game.”

For the night, Hassan Alatooli led the T-birds with three goals and two assists in the victory. His teammate Lucas Zelek followed suit scoring two goals while Haleem Alyamani, Gabriel Omer and Alhassan Nassr each added one goal. Alyamani had a team-high of three assists and Nassr picked up one assist along the way.

The Rails (9-3-1, 6-3 DRL) had won three consecutive games heading into Wednesday evening. During that stretch they outscored their opponents by a total of 25-0.

Against Edsel, Lincoln Park struggled to establish any continuity in the game and failed to convert on scoring opportunities.

Next up for Edsel is a battle with No. 2 seed Woodhaven on Wednesday, Oct. 6 in a game that will wrap up the DRL position round for both teams. The Rails will finish up the league’s position round on Monday, Oct. 4 with a game at Woodhaven.

Elsewhere in the DRL on Wednesday night, Woodhaven and Allen Park closed out the first half of the league season with a head-to-head battle. The Warriors (9-1-2, 6-0-2 DRL) and Jaguars (7-5-2, 5-2-1 DRL) ultimately played to a 0-0 draw.

Woodhaven is set to play again on Thursday in a non-league match at Riverview. Allen Park is scheduled to visit Fordson on Friday in a non-league tilt. The Jags will kick off the league’s position round with a home game against Trenton on Wednesday, Oct. 6.
