Aberdeen FC have confirmed that Celtic fans will be subject to COVID-19 Vaccination Spot Checks on Sunday. The club posted on their website that all fans would be required to have this information to hand in the event that they are stopped by a member of the security staff in the course of entering the ground.
All supporters are being told to bring visible proof of vaccination or face being refused entry, unless exempt.
“Ahead of Sunday’s match with Celtic at Pittodrie we can now share an update on the Scottish Government requirement to provide proof of vaccination. The Scottish Government legislation which will come into effect from 1st October, and will be enforced from 18th October, means that every supporter attending matches at Pittodrie must be fully vaccinated and provide visual proof of vaccination to gain entry to the stadium, unless exempt.
“On matchday, spot checks will be carried out by stewards and AFC staff in line with Scottish Government guidance and all supporters must be prepared to provide proof of vaccination.
“We are obliged to follow Scottish Government legislation and would like to thank supporters in advance for their co-operation and understanding, full information on the implementation of vaccine passports can be found here.
“Proof of vaccination can be provided using a hard paper copy or a digital version. Whilst digital copies will be accepted, we would like to encourage supporters to bring a hard copy where possible to speed up the entry process.
“Those exempt for medical reasons or due to participation in vaccine trials are asked to carry an official letter to confirm this. You will not be admitted to the stadium without this.”
This incentive was due to become law on October 1st that events over 10k would be required to have Vaccine Passports; however, the Scottish Government has delayed the implementation of this plan in order to give organisations more time to prepare. Although, Aberdeen have been proactive in their approach and have decided to adhere to the original timetabling.
If you are lucky enough to have a ticket for Sunday, please make sure that you have the relevant paperwork with you. Both teams are enduring a bit of a tricky run with Celtic in 6th and Aberdeen in 7th. The game will also see Celtic legend Scott Brown coming up against his former club as the Aberdeen captain lines up in opposing colours for the first time since leaving in the summer.
