A pregnant teen is dead from COVID-19 leaving a heartbroken family behind her.
According to affiliate FOX 13 in Memphis Aushunti Rimmer caught COVID-19 around the same time as her mother, Voshe Rimmer. Voshe says that she believes she spread the virus to her daughter.
Both were unvaccinated.
“It hurt me so bad because me and her talked about COVID and I begged her to get the shot but she was always like momma I’m scared,” Voshe Rimmer said.
Both Voshe and her daughter were in the hospital at the same time for COVID. Aushunti, who was five months pregnant and suffered from diabetes had to be placed on a ventilator.
Voshe tried to reassure her daughter as she was preparing to go on the ventilator. “I told her, ‘Well. baby, it won’t hurt.’ She said, ‘Yes, it’s going to hurt,’ and I said, ‘No baby, just pray to God about it and close your eyes, and everything will be okay.”
It was the last time she would see her daughter alive.
Voshe is urging others to get vaccinated. “They need to get vaccinated. They really need to take it serious,” she said. “They got to take it serious because my daughter is one of the ones who was scared.”
The family is planning a funeral in Mississippi on Saturday.
