Former head coach takes to social media Tuesday afternoon
Former Georgia Southern head football coach Chad Lunsford is speaking out for the first time since being fired back on Saturday.
Lunsford sharing a note on social media Tuesday afternoon.
Lunsford, who took over midway through the 2017 season, guided Georgia Southern to a 28-21 record in four seasons.
Under his watch, the Eagles would make three consecutive bowl appearances. Georgia Southern would win two of those postseason contests.
The firing comes after a 1-3 start to the 2021 season. The Eagles edged FCS member Gardner-Webb in the season opener before dropping three straight games against Florida Atlantic, Arkansas and Louisiana.
Cornerbacks coach Kevin Whitley will serve as Georgia Southern's interim head coach. The former Eagles All-American and Canadian Football League player is in his third season on staff.
Georgia Southern hosts Arkansas State this Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
