Worcester’s DCU Center leaves decision to require COVID vaccination proof or negative test up to touring acts and events

Worcester’s DCU Center is leaving the decision to require proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test to the touring acts and events renting the space, general manager Sandra Dunn said.

However, that could change, said Dunn.

As of right now, only one touring act on the venue’s calendar is requiring attendees show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test, Swedish rock band Ghost, which is scheduled to perform in February of 2022.

According to the venue’s current policy, all patrons are required to be masked except when seated in an assigned location and actively eating or drinking. This policy is in line with the city’s mask mandate, which was reinstated two weeks ago.

“This is an ever changing landscape as it relates to COVID protocols and this could change in the future,” the venue’s policy reads. “DCU Center management stays informed on federal, state, and local guidelines in this regard. If the policy is to change in the future it will be posted on social media and the DCU Center website.”

Last week, the Worcester Palladium announced it would require attendees to show proof of vaccination or a recent negative test to attend all upcoming shows. That policy goes into effect Oct. 15. The TD Garden also announced last week it will require proof of vaccination or a negative test for all of its upcoming events, including Bruins and Celtics games.

“Our position has been to let those who are well informed — our excellent health care community here in Massachusetts, our well informed public health officials and our federal, state and city leadership — to make those decisions unless the client requires a more restrictive policy than what is implemented locally,” said Dunn.

The DCU Center is set to house a collegiate ice hockey tournament Oct. 8-9 featuring Holy Cross, Quinnipiac, Northeastern and Boston College. The Worcester Railers HC will host their opening night at the venue on Oct. 23.
