‘Euphoria’ Actress Sydney Sweeney Channels Anna Nicole Smith for Guess Originals

Guess is once again honoring one of its most acclaimed models of the ’90s with a dedicated collection for men and women.

Launching Oct. 7, the Guess Originals x Anna Nicole Smith collection centers on the late Anna Nicole Smith, ’90s pop culture icon and former Guess girl.

Designed by artist Cali Thornhill DeWitt, who is best known for merchandise he designed for Kanye West’s “The Life of Pablo Tour,” the collection draws inspiration from the model’s iconic Miami photo shoot from 1992 led by photographer Wayne Maser. Featuring T-shirts, sweats and hoodies in a limited color palette of black, white, red and teal, the collection is punctuated by key denim pieces such as a denim jumpsuit, carpenter pants and denim jackets.

Each piece includes a direct reference to the model, with some containing the phrase “Did you miss me?” Others showcase legendary campaign imagery from her previous photo shoots and all of them contain a digital replication of her signature.

This isn’t the first time the brand has celebrated Smith’s legacy. In 2018, it teamed with DeWitt on a similar (albeit pared-down) collection spanning a T-shirt and hoodie featuring a Guess campaign image of Smith with the words “Did You Miss Me?” printed across the back.

In tandem with the new collection, Guess tapped Sydney Sweeney, star of HBO’s “Euphoria” and “White Lotus,” to front the campaign. With a similar beach backdrop and black-and-white photo effects, the campaign directly references Smith’s past work with Guess.

“Anna Nicole Smith is essential to ’90s fashion,” said Nicolai Marciano, director of brand partnerships at Guess. “Anna’s legendary beach shoot revived for this collection and the campaign with [Sweeney] is the perfect timeless moment to continue to celebrate one of the most iconic Guess girls with a new generation.”

Partnering with 24-year-old Sweeney for the campaign was a strategic move for Guess, which has stated its intention of connecting more closely with the Gen Z consumer. This summer, it brought together VIPs, social influencers and skate enthusiasts to celebrate the launch of the Guess U.S.A. x Babylon Skate Park Festival and its second capsule collection with men’s streetwear and skate store Babylon LA.

Paying homage to its model family is a common theme for Guess, which, in February, launched a collection honoring former Guess girl Drew Barrymore. Developed in collaboration with streetwear brand Pleasures, an L.A.-based label known for its punk and grunge influences, the line included 36 pieces for men and women printed with Pleasures branding and ’90s Guess campaign imagery featuring Barrymore.

The Guess Originals x Anna Nicole Smith Collection will be available in select Guess stores and Guess Originals pop-ups globally, as well as guessoriginals.com. Select styles will also be available at urbanoutfitters.com.
