Catherine ‘Cathy’ Miron Kraatz

ST. CLOUD, Minn. — Catherine “Cathy” Miron Kraatz, age 64, passed away on September 24, 2021, in St. Cloud, Minnesota, after battling a respiratory system illness for several years.

She was born on December 17, 1956, in Superior, Wisconsin, and grew up in Hancock, with her loving parents Darlene and Claude “Block” Miron.

Cathy was a wonderfully talented artist known best for her beautiful flowers, snowman families and scarecrows. You’ll see her artwork proudly displayed all over the households of family and friends, as well as at hundreds of households who regularly stopped by her booths during craft fairs throughout the Midwest.

She was known to have made in-depth individual connections with those close to her because of her ability to listen, care for those around her, and bring smiles out of anyone near her. She was especially beloved by children, particularly her grandchildren and many friends. She was always known as a wonderful cook, especially at making something delectable out of nothing.

The Copper Country was always home to her. She worked at several area restaurants and had a stint as the house cook at Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity in Houghton. While in the area she loved to be in Copper Harbor, camp with her family, go horseback riding and relax by the family pool. In addition, she loved to watch movies, playing cards, and games.

She was a Hancock Central High School Alumna. For most of her adult life she lived in Minnesota. She spent the winters with her husband, family and friends at the Pharr South Retirement Community in Pharr, Texas.

She is survived by her mother, husband of 34 years Rick Kraatz; five sisters, Lisa (Bill) Rosseau, Julie (Bob) Lang, Shelley (David) Lucchesi, Mary (Robert) Babcock and Tracie (Daryll) Williams; seven children, Chris (Jen) Peryam, Aimee Peryam, Ashley (Nathan) Ekdahl; step children, Tina (Ron) Reynolds, Michelle (Dan) Johnson, Rachel (Tom) Kramer, and Bethaney Vaale; 18 grandchildren, Anna and Sara Peryam, Ben and Austin Wessel, Jordyn (Christian) Maki, Madelyn, Tyler and Kamryn Romps, and Olivia and Addison Ekdahl, Michael Kraatz and Kyle Mattson, Mariah and McCoy Kramer, Christopher, Heather and Cassea Reynolds, Aiden, Corbin and Sarah Vaale and many nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.
