Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James joined Peyton and Eli Manning for their Monday Night Football broadcast, and they naturally talked about James' football career. LeBron was a football star at St. Vincent-St. Mary, but he obviously opted for the basketball route and has become one of the best NBA players ever.

Still, it's always fun to wonder what would have happened if James chose football instead. Well, The King offered up quite the hilarious reason for why he gave up football in high school: his quarterback just wasn't good enough!

Imagine being LeBron James' high school quarterback and catching these strays all these years later on Monday Night Football. Even Peyton and Eli got in on it, though their dad reprimanded them for it:

Of course, these guys were just having some fun with these comments. There's no way LeBron James would have chosen football over basketball if he simply had a five-star quarterback throwing him the ball. Picking the grind of the NFL over the NBA when you're one of the best basketball prospects ever would have been truly nuts.

Still, this made for some entertaining television. The Mannings have been a treat to watch on Monday Night Football, delivering a broadcast that's both fun and informative while also bringing on excellent guests to keep things fresh. This was just the latest example of that, and we got a great LeBron James moment from it.

The King also brought up again how he got contract offers from the Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks during the NBA lockout a decade ago. It would have been awesome to see him even just sign a deal and practice with those teams, even if he never played in a game.
