On September 17th, 1787, the United States Constitution was signed by those who wrote it. On that day 234 years later, we continue to celebrate the signing of the Constitution and the rights and responsibilities it affords each of us. Each of us are encouraged to study the historical events that led to the framing the the Constitution in September 1787; to remind the public that the Constitution is the basis of America’s great heritage and the foundation for its way of life; and to emphasize U.S. citizens’ responsibility to protect, defend and preserve the U.S. Constitution.

Proclamations were signed by Caruthersville mayor Sue Grantham and Kennett mayor Chancellor Wayne and the Pemiscot County Commissioners, Mark Cartee, Noble Nelson and Baughn Merideth. Proclamations were also signed by Caruthersville School Superintendent JJ Bullington with Carson Riggs, Josiah Lockridge, Isabel Escandon and Lucky Singleton signing as witnesses. These students were also given a copy of the book “Constitution Translated for Kids”. Written by Cathy Travis. Ms. Travis is a native of Jonesboro, AR and a graduate of Arkansas State University.
