Bob Willis Trophy Final: Warwickshire dominate, day one as it happened

The official word from the umpires is out, there will be no more play at the home of cricket. Rob Yates will begin day two on 69 not out for Warwickshire, with opening partner Dom Sibley on 49.

Only 44 overs were possible on day one of last year's inaugural Bob Willis Trophy final between Essex and Somerset, so we've done better than that, with 61.5 bowled - and it's five days later in the calendar.

Bad light has now given way to rain...looks like Dom Sibley will have to wait to try and complete a half-century for Warwickshire. He is 49 not out and Rob Yates has 69.

Spare a thought today for Lancashire's Luke Wood, who made 46 in their sorry first-innings total, and then bowled better than his 0-23 from eight overs might suggest.

With a single from Rob Yates, this now overtakes the 119 the pair put on last week against Somerset to make it Warwickshire's best opening partnership of the season.

Dom Sibley gets in on the act when he steers Luke Wood to the cover boundary. Warwickshire's lead is already over 30.

There are potentially 32 overs left in the day, so their lead could get into three figures by close of play.

Wood then thinks he has Rob Yates LBW with an excellent in-swinger. Umpire David Millns shakes his head - that would definitely have been reviewed if DRS was in use this game.

Would it have been hitting leg-stump or umpire's call? Irrelevant really, as it's not out.

On Sky, Ian Ward and Nasser Hussain are discussing whether England may find room for Rob Yates or Dom Sibley in an enlarged squad to go to Australia this winter.

With four hundreds and 793 runs in the Championship this season, 22-year-old Yates is forwarding his case.

A century in a showcase match at Lord's would come in handy. Traditionally, big performances in big matches in August and September have often caught the selectors' eyes for winter tours.

He has had a little bit of fortune, but with ten boundaries he has cashed in on loose deliveries, but his positive manner at the crease has been well rewarded.

After a century last week, he looks full of confidence.
