New developments coming to Foley

Posted

FOLEY - The City of Foley continues to grow as new developments make their way to the city.

Those driving along Highway 59 lately have probably noticed that the old building that used to house Rite Aid has been demolished. According to Foley Mayor Ralph Hellmich, a current Foley business will be getting an updated location at that spot in the future.

“That is supposed to be the new Taco Bell building that will be a new, modern business,” Hellmich said. “I don’t know when they’ll actually start construction on that, there’s some challenges with contractors and getting people to do jobs and I understand that even the new businesses that are opening are really struggling with workers … It’s a real shortage.”

Taco Bell is currently located at 1165 S. McKenzie Street. The demolition of the Rite Aid building isn’t the only thing happening in Foley. For more than a year, there has been talk about an Aldi’s coming to Foley. An Aldi’s distribution site recently broke ground in Loxley, but Foley residents were left wondering when the rumored store would appear in the city.

“And of course, it’s not an urban myth, they are clearing the property for Aldi’s so I just will go ahead and say that,” said Hellmich. “The main building up in Loxley is running a little bit behind schedule, but it’s a huge distribution center and they do have quite a few builds coming in South Alabama, so they’ve started. We were told that they may start construction sometime this fall, and hopefully be open about the time of their distribution center.”

Hellmich said other businesses are still in the infancy stage of making their way to the city. As those projects come along he said they will be announced publicly.
