After a crazy past few months, Brooklyn Nets star LaMarcus Aldridge recently opened up about that horrifying April evening that forced him to go into early retirement. Talking with the media on Monday, the 36-year-old spoke about his traumatic episode dealing with certain cardiac issues that he had encountered.

According to Aldridge, that night when the Nets played against the Los Angeles Lakers on April 10, 2021, was simply unimaginable. He went from playing in the Staples Center to his hotel room in LA, and eventually, to the hospital.

“That night was so dramatic for me. I was like, ‘I’m definitely done’,” Aldridge shared (via The NY Post). “It was a combination of things that I’d never experienced. It was an overwhelming 24 hours of new experiences with a heart condition. It was a very scary night for me.”

After initially signing with the Nets midway through the 2020-2021 NBA season coming from the San Antonio Spurs, the seven-time All-Star ended up just playing a total of five games for the Nets before that traumatic incident occurred. Soon after that, Aldridge retired from the NBA after 15 solid seasons.

Now, Aldrige is back. The five-time All-NBA Team member shocked the world when he announced that he was set to come back and eventually signed a one-year deal with the Nets. Per Aldrige, these last few months have tested him and have only made him stronger than ever.

“After everything I did over the last five months to get back,” he added. “I’m going to go out on my own terms.”
