The Kansas City Chiefs had a huge scare on Sunday after coach Andy Reid was forced to leave the game against the Los Angeles Chargers due to dehydration. He was rushed to the hospital as he struggled to cope with the temperature at Arrowhead Stadium that reportedly rose to 90 degrees. One of the first people to express concern for Reid was Las Vegas Raiders coach Jon Gruden.

The Raiders and the Chiefs aren't exactly chummy-chummy. History will show that the two teams have had bitter battles in the past being AFC West rivals. Gruden is also known to be quite a gruff character, a direct contrast to Reid's amiable personality. Still, the Raiders mentor felt deeply worried (via Raiders).

“He is a very close friend. We exchanged some text messages last night and (I'm) just glad to hear he’s OK. I will be the first to admit that this is not an easy deal emotionally.”

Fans might have forgotten that Gruden and Reid spent several years together as assistant coaches for the Green Bay Packers in the 1990s. So even though the Raiders and the Chiefs are competitive rivals, it hasn't affected their tight bond off the field.

Reid didn't stay long in the hospital after receiving immediate treatment. Chiefs spokesperson Ted Crews said Reid was “in good spirits” and plans to visit the team's practice facility as soon as possible.

Gruden and Reid will be reunited on the gridiron when the Raiders visit the Chiefs on November 14.
