Michigan State men's golf team posted a 36-hole score of 2-under par 566 and stands in ninth place among 14 teams in the Windon Memorial Classic, being held at the Lake Shore Country Club in Glencoe, Ill. on Monday.
The tournament is being played on the par-71, 7,000-yard course on the shores of Lake Michigan.
Play was halted due to darkness with five teams still on the course. Those teams will complete the second round at 7:30 a.m. (CT), with the third and final round teeing off at approximately 8:15 a.m. (CT).
Notre Dame, South Florida and Marquette – who will all finish the second round on Tuesday morning – were leading the field, while Washington was tied for third place at 7-under par 561 and Georgia Tech and Kansas were tied for fifth place at 6-under par 563. Kent State, MSU and Cal Poly round out the top-10 teams.
The Spartans were tied for fifth place after the morning round on Monday, carding a 3-under par 281, and followed that up with a 1-over par 285 in the afternoon round.
Freshman
Ashton McCulloch (Kingston, Ontario/Holy Cross Catholic) paced the Spartans on Monday, firing consecutive rounds of 1-under par 70 to finish at 2-under par 140 and tied for 13th place.
Junior
Bradley Smithson (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern) fired a 4-under par 67 in the second round and is tied for 20th at 1-under par 141.
Senior
Troy Taylor II (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville South) is tied for 39th place at 1-over par 143 after rounds of even-par 71 and 1-over par 72.
Fifth year
James Piot (Canton, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) was tied for fifth place after a 3-under par 68, but posted a 5-over par 76 in the second round and is tied for 47th place at 2-over par 144.
Sophomore
August Meekhof (Coopersville, Mich./Allendale) is tied for 74th place at 7-over par 149, with rounds of 1-over par 72 and 6-over par 77.
