Alfonso Morales gets new job as police chief

In a split vote Monday night, the Fitchburg Police & Fire Commission recommended the former Milwaukee police chief to lead its police department.

The Fitchburg Police & Fire Commission on Monday gave former Milwaukee police Chief Alfonso Morales another chance to lead a Wisconsin police department when it recommended him to become the small city's top law enforcement officer Monday.The split vote notched another win for Morales who recently agreed to a $627,000 civil settlement from the City of Milwaukee after a circuit court judge deemed his August 2020 ouster illegal. Morales was one of two finalists for the job in Fitchburg, which is south of Madison."The Commission is looking forward to the future, working with Chief Morales, to continue to provide community-involved policing and law enforcement that respects the value of all individuals in our community," a statement posted on the city's website read. "Chief Morales was very pleased to have been selected and is looking forward to working with the very talented Officers and other professional staff of the Fitchburg police department."It is unclear when Morales will begin the new job.
