Hocking College football player Caden Cox scored his first-ever point as a student-athlete on Sept. 11 for the Hawks. That extra point was a first for college football as well.
Caden became the first player born with down syndrome to score in an NCAA or NJCAA game.
Head Coach Ted Egger says this the extra point was an opportunity Caden has been working on since joining the team.
"Caden the opportunity to go in the game and kick and it was what he does in practice. He comes out every day, he works hard, makes his kicks," Egger said.
Coach Egger runs a tight group that's like a family. For Caden, the connection is well understood. His father, Kevin, is even a part of the staff at Hocking College.
“My father played at Tennessee, so we have a lot of family that was on a team,” Caden said.
Caden has been able to score off the football field as well, he's capitalized on the new NIL bill striking a contract and teaming up with Rocky Brands.
"Just being stationed here in Nelsonville and for them to come over to Hocking College and bring Caden aboard is a very big thing," Egger said.
As special as the extra point was for Caden, he remains a team-first kind of player.
"We had to stay focused on the game, no more attitudes because we need to step up, next level and play some games," Cox said.
