Hall County students achieve highest college test results in district history

GAINESVILLE – Members of the Hall County Board of Education heard Monday evening that test scores for the district saw significant gains despite the challenges associated with the pandemic.

“SAT scores came out roughly two weeks ago with record highs for the Hall County School District,” Kevin Bales, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, proudly reported to the school board.

(SAT is a standardized test that is widely used for college admissions, measuring a student’s skills in reading, math and writing.  Originally SAT stood for Scholastic Aptitude Test but that is no longer the official title of the benchmark test.)

Bales reported that the average of all test scores across Hall County was 1086, significantly higher than the national average of 1038 and surpassing the statewide average of 1077.

A year ago Hall County averaged 1045, still exceeding the national average of 1030, but much closer to the Georgia average of 1043.

“Again, tremendously, positive SAT scores, and from my perspective this is not just a high school Senior celebration, this is a K-12 celebration of work,” Bales effused.  “And doing that in the middle of a pandemic puts a smile on my face.”

“We had a lot of kids that last year ‘knocked-it-out-of-the-park’, so congratulations to them,” Bales stated, adding that Hall County scores are in the top 15-percent of the state.

Last week Gainesville City Schools announced a similar rise in test scores.
