Health leaders in the New River Valley said they believe the area has passed the peak of the current Delta variant surge.
In a press conference Monday afternoon, Dr. Noelle Bissell with the New River Valley Health District said this is the first week the numbers are not increasing from the prior week in months.
She reminded folks that doesn’t mean the impact of the surge isn’t still being felt. She said local hospitals remain full, and they are asking the community to do their part.
“Please go ahead and get vaccinated, and we’re asking people to avoid risky behavior that may cause injuries because all those unnecessary injuries pile onto the hospitals as well,” Bissell said.
She said the area does have both booster shots and monoclonal treatments available.
