The New York Mets collapse coincided with the team bringing back their black jerseys for the first time since 2012.

The New York Mets should burn their black jerseys right this minute because they’re cursed. At the end of July, the organization made the decision to bring back the black jerseys for the first time in nine years. Looking back, the jerseys should’ve stayed in 2012.

New York decided to sport all-black during Friday games for the reminder of the season. It turned out that the season would end a lot sooner than the Mets anticipated back in July.

New York Mets’ cursed black jerseys led to the team’s fallout

Prior to reintroducing the black jerseys back to New York’s closet, the Mets were the leaders of the NL East. The jerseys came a couple of weeks after the 2021 MLB All-Star Week in Denver, which is around the time that New York’s collapse began.

Since then, the Mets have been on a fast track to doing everything possible to be out of the playoffs. New York is currently a staggering 14 games behind the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Wild Card race, who will likely be the team to play the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Mets haven’t won a World Series title since 1986 and New York’s fans had high hopes for a team that seemed very promising a mere two months ago.

Things didn’t pan out as well as the Mets hoped with the black jerseys. New York sits at third in the NL East and are 10 games back from the first-place Atlanta Braves.

The black jerseys should never make an appearance at Citi Field again. Or any other stadium around the country.
