Mayor Collins Announces Restart to Employee Donation Campaign for United Way

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Cheyenne Mayor, Patrick Collins, announced last Friday, September 24, that he wants to restart the employee donation campaign for United Way of Laramie County.

“It’s a way that they contribute on a regular basis and so our funding stays secure in that way,” said Vernon Dobelmann, Executive Director for United Way of Laramie County. “And it’s also a way that an individual can give in a pretty painless way -- they don’t see the money. But it helps us to really cover a wide range of services.”

United Way of Laramie County has been impacting the community for 73 years, but the organization hasn’t had an employee donation for several years for the organization, according to Mayor Collins.

The United Way says most of its funding comes from business and employer-sponsored events as well as these employee donation campaigns. Currently, the United Way is funding 22 different organizations and programs in Laramie County with a focus on financial stability, health and education.

“Go to our website and you can see... just click on the ‘impact tab’ on the top of the page and it will show you how many thousands of people that we helped in 2020,” Dobelmann said. “And that was even with the pandemic and all of the restrictions that came into play with that. So, we are making a difference and we are only able to that if people continue to support us with their kindness and generosity.”
