PASCO, Wash. (KEPR) — The Pasco Police Department has named Joshua Davis, of Richland, as the man who brutally stabbed Richard Lenhart to death on Friday afternoon.
Chief Ken Roske updated media with more details about the deadly attack on Monday afternoon.
"Mr. Lenhart was stabbed repeatedly with a knife by Mr. Davis during this attack," Roske said.
Roske told a room full of reporters that Lenhart had just picked up 35 students from Longfellow Elementary before the attack.
Roske says that witnesses saw Joshua Davis in the area but he appeared to be unarmed. Davis then approached the bus and produced a knife before he began attacking Lenhart.
Roske says Lenhart was stabbed repeatedly and let his foot off the brake of the bus during the attack. The bus lurched forward and came to rest on a curb near Longfellow Elementary.
Roske told media that none of the children on board the bus were physically harmed.
Witnesses say Davis left the scene after the attack but later returned. Pasco Police arrested Davis at the scene without further incident. Roske said Davis complied with officers. Police were also able to locate a knife at the scene.
"Some rumors suggest that our suspect in this case, Mr. Davis, was homeless. He was not," Roske said.
Police have searched Davis' home in Richland through the course of the investigation.
Roske says at this time he does not have an answer to the 'why'. Chief Roske says there is no information to make them believe that Davis and Lenhart knew each other prior to the incident.
"There are some aspects to this tragedy we may never have complete answers to," Roske said.
