FORT VALLEY, Ga. -- Today, a hearing was held challenging a Fort Valley Mayoral candidate.
Gordon L. Jack Joyner represented Fort Valley in the hearing that challenged mayoral candidate Jeffery Lundy.
Joyner stated that four voters filed a challenge on Lundy's residency qualifications.
Joyner says that Lundy for the past decade has lived in the Ponderosa subdivision in Peach County, outside of the Fort Valley city district.
However, on his voter registration, he filed that he lived at a Fort Valley address.
Joyner says even if the city accepted the date that Lundy filed his residency in Fort Valley as September 9, 2020, it would still not be valid.
He says this is less than a year of what is needed to qualify to run.
Joyner says he presented "numerous public record documents" that showed Lundy's address was outside of the city district.
Lundy presented his argument for running and the validity of his residency while at the hearing.
"I have served this city for over 30 years... I understand what it means to protect and serve," stated Lundy.
A hearing officer can make the decision to declare Lundy as not qualified under the authority of Georgia law.
The results for the hearing are expected to be announced at a later time.
