Irvine crash leaves woman dead, man arrested on suspicion of DUI

The driver of a Prius that collided with a Mercedes-Benz in Irvine early Monday, Sept. 27, died, and the other motorist was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, authorities said.

The collision happened about 4:10 a.m. at Sand Canyon Avenue and Irvine Center Drive, Irvine Lt. Bill Bingham said.

The driver of the Toyota, Kyu Chen, 61, of Irvine, was killed.

Luis Marcial Diaz, 21, of Irvine was behind the wheel of the Mercedes, Irvine police said, and arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs based on observations made by responding officers.
