Chicago White Sox: Win a game that is not easy to get up for

Last week, when the Chicago White Sox and Detroit Tigers were rained out, we knew it would end the Monday off-day. Going into the game before it was rained out, the White Sox were still looking to clinch the American League Division Championship. Well, they clinched it in Cleveland over the weekend and took three of five from them.

That made this game nothing but a nuisance. The White Sox had to go back up to Detroit to play them in this one game and then head back to Chicago after a long 11 game road trip. With the game meaning almost nothing, it could have been hard to get up for but the White Sox showed up big. An 8-7 win over this Tigers team is very impressive in this setting.

There weren’t very many people in the crowd but the energy was there just enough to win a game on the road. Now, they can come home and try and get things perfect before heading into the playoffs. With how successful Detroit has been in the second half of the season, this was a good start to that.

As far as the offense, eight runs are great. Yasmani Grandal and Eloy Jimenez each had big home runs. Clutch hits from Cesar Hernandez, Luis Robert, and Zack Collins also helped the White Sox score some big runs in the win as well. This is the type of damage we need to see as the season wraps up.

Of course, this was a big game for Dallas Keuchel. He is trying to make his way onto the playoff roster. He may or may not be a starter as it depends on the status of Carlos Rodon. However, having a good game against this Detroit lineup was very important.

Detroit doesn’t quite have the same powerful lineup that the Houston Astros or Tampa Bay Rays have but there are some really good hitters. He did give up seven hits but only allowed two runs and two walks in 5.0 innings. He was able to move his record to .500 at 9-9 which isn’t too bad for a fifth starter on a World Series level team.

The Chicago White Sox went into the 8th inning with an 8-2 lead but the Tigers brought the go-ahead run to the plate and left the inning only trailing by one. Liam Hendriks came in the 9th inning after some bench clearing fireworks and the White Sox hung on. It was closer than we would have liked but it was a win nonetheless.

The Chicago White Sox has a lot to accomplish during the final week of the season.

The White Sox are not done with Detroit. They have the Cincinnati Reds during the week at home and then the Tigers visit Chicago one last time to close out both team’s regular seasons. It has been a good matchup so far this season and it is good to see the White Sox win a tough game like that.
