STATE COLLEGE — Penn State is known for its blue and white, while Ohio State is known for its scarlet and gray. But when the Nittany Lions and Buckeyes meet at Ohio Stadium next month in what should be a crucial Big Ten meeting, Ohio State will mostly be forgoing the second part of that combination.
The Buckeyes unveiled Monday new alternate uniforms for their matchup with the Nittany Lions on Oct. 30. Ohio State will be decked out in all-scarlet uniforms for the game, a look that should contrast nicely with Penn State’s traditional all-white road look.
From an Ohio State release:
All-scarlet means a color rush of all-scarlet. Jersey, pants, socks, base layers, gloves and spikes will be scarlet with the traditional striping pattern on the shoulders and down the side of the legs. The traditional metallic extreme silver helmet will also be worn.
You can see more photos of the uniforms on Twitter here.
Ohio State is also urging its fans to “scarlet the stadium” by wearing the color to the 102,780-seat Ohio Stadium, aka The Horseshoe.
Next month’s meeting between No. 4 Penn State and No. 11 Ohio State won’t be the first time the Buckeyes have worn alternate uniforms against the Nittany Lions at home. Ohio State wore all-gray uniforms in 2017, all-black uniforms in 2015 and an alternate version of the traditional scarlet and gray home uniforms in 2013.
Ohio State also wore an all-white alternate uniform when it visited Penn State in 2014.
The Nittany Lions and Buckeyes will meet at Ohio Stadium in Columbus on Oct. 30. No kick time or television network for the game has been announced yet. Penn State is 4-0 after its 38-17 win over Villanova on Saturday. Ohio State improved to 3-1 with its 59-7 win over Akron. The Buckeyes’ lone stumble this season was a 35-28 home loss to No. 3 Oregon.
Ohio State won last season’s meeting with Penn State, 38-25, at Beaver Stadium.
