Rocky Mount man accused of impersonating CIA agent after history of similar charges

A Rocky Mount man was charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer last week, years after he was accused of committing similar crimes in other states.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A Rocky Mount man was charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer last week, years after he was accused of committing similar crimes in other states.

Nash County deputies arrested Adrian Crump at his home on Charlotte Avenue in Rocky Mount on Friday while serving a warrant for impersonating law enforcement.

The Nash County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) said Crump was seen wearing a t-shirt with "NASH COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE - Serving the citizens of Nash County with Honor, Compassion and Diligence" written on it and a "Federal Agent" logo on the back of the shirt. A law enforcement badge was over his front pocket. Crump was spotted wearing the shirt and materials at the Harrison Family YMCA on Independence Drive in Rocky Mount.

Nash County Sheriff's Office said Crump 'displayed unusual workout antics' while exercising at the YMCA, which others inside the gym noticed.

Crump also wore a gold CIA Badge and told investigators he was a law enforcement officer. Crump went so far as to show deputies fake documents indicating he's with Homeland Security. According to NCSO, Crump has been caught impersonating law enforcement since 2006, and they're concerned he could erode public confidence in law enforcement.

"He was actually caught with a firearm, with some handcuffs, and items that a law enforcement officer, whether local or federal, would have on their possession, and it’s scary," said Brandon Medina, Chief Deputy with Nash County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities also seized nearly 60 grams of marijuana while inside the home.

Crump was transported to the Nash County Magistrate's Office in Nashville and received a $5,000 secured bond for the impersonation charge. Crump also received an additional $5,000 secured bond for the charges of possess with intent to sell/deliver marijuana, maintain a vehicle/dwelling/place controlled substance, and possession marijuana paraphernalia.

During the investigation, authorities learned the defendant had a history of being charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer in Virginia in 2012 and Minnesota in 2006 and 2010. A report from NBC12 in Richmond notes Crump had been apprehended at least two times in 2012 for impersonating a law enforcement officer and driving several vehicles with flashing lights.

"That hurts the trust that the community has with law enforcement," said Medina.

Crump's first court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 28.

Earlier this month, Grant Hall, a Raleigh man, was charged after being seen driving around in a car that mimicked a Wake County Sheriff's Office cruiser.

In August, an 18-year-old Benson woman told authorities she was driving on Black Creek Road near Four Oaks when she was pulled over by a driver in a silver Dodge Charger. Once she pulled over, she said, the flashing lights turned off. Two men then got out of the car, and the teen said both were wearing ski masks and dark clothing.
