The Denton Police Department is investigating the city’s second homicide this year after a 22-year-old man was fatally shot Sunday night.
Police were dispatched to the 19Twenty Apartments on Ruddell Street after multiple people called around 9:02 p.m. to report hearing gunshots. No one had been arrested as of Monday evening.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim on Monday as 22-year-old Isaiah Dre-Von Harpe, but did not yet list a manner and cause of death.
Denton police spokesperson Allison Beckwith said investigators were still speaking with witnesses and didn’t yet have information about a possible suspect.
Officers arrived and found the 22-year-old with multiple gunshot wounds inside an apartment unit. He was found dead in his apartment, according to the medical examiner.
“[Paramedics] did not transport,” Beckwith said. “They arrived on scene and attempted life saving measures.”
A 22-year-old man is accused of killing a woman who was pregnant at the time of her death on April 28. Police said the suspect, Simeon Bonilla-Rubio of Coppell, fled the shooting scene near Interstate 35E and McCormick Street and caught an Uber to Dallas, where the Dallas Police Department later found him.
Bonilla-Rubio was initially charged with murder, but the charge was later enhanced due to the victim’s pregnancy. Cassity Hinojosa, 19, was a Denton resident and died at a hospital from gunshot wounds to her neck, according to the medical examiner.
