EAST HANOVER TWP. – Although there will be no Morris County Columbus Day Parade this year, the East Hanover Italian American Club will reinforce its commitment to promote Italian pride, heritage and culture by hosting a wreath-laying ceremony at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 10 at the Columbus statue at Townsquare Park on Ridgedale Avenue.
The guest speaker for the event will be Frank Lorenzo, vice president of the Italian AmericanOne Voice Coalition.
The coalition defends Italian American civil rights and leads the fight in communities that try to remove Columbus Day from their calendars and those communities that find it politically correct to remove Columbus statues, according to East Hanover Italian American Club Publicity Director Bill Agnellino.
The East Hanover Fire Department will host coffee and pastries following the event.
Agnellino said the annual Columbus Day parade will return next year.
