CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Dr. Noelle Bissell, the director of the New River Health District, held a news conference Monday afternoon to discuss the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic.
This Zoom briefing comes after the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) reported 7,987 new COVID-19 cases, 230 new virus-related hospitalizations between Friday, Sept. 24 and Monday, Sept. 27.
During the briefing, Dr. Bissell said they are seeing a decline in COVID cases across the district. She went on to say that the hospitals are at 100 percent and then some.
Dr. Bissell asked everyone to get vaccinated for those who are eligible, to practice mitigation strategies, and to wash your hands often to help prevent the spread of the virus.
The director of the New River Health District also talked about how health officials say they don’t think COVID will go away.
The VDH says 194 of those new cases and two of those new deaths are from the following localities in the New River Health District:
- Floyd County: 29 new cases
- Giles County: 44 new cases
- Montgomery County: 64 new cases and one new death
- Pulaski County: 35 new cases and one new death
- Radford: 22 new cases
