Thor 4 Star Matt Damon Reveals Why He Needed Australian Government Permission to Work on Love and Thunder

We already know that Matt Damon is returning as Actor Loki in Thor: Love and Thunder. However, the Good Will Hunting star has revealed that it wasn't easy to film the Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel. Damon shared how he needed to get permission from the Australian government to work in the country and that the officials made it clear there was only one reason why he was allowed to do so in the first place.

In January, it was revealed that Damon had brought his family to Australia and there were speculations that he will reprise his role as Actor Loki in Thor 4. It wasn't until June that the Stillwater star confirmed his appearance in Love and Thunder.

Working on Thor 4 might sound like a fun ride considering that Damon has previously worked with director Taika Waititi on Thor: Ragnarok. However, Damon revealed to GQ that traveling to Australia was not easy considering that the country had strict border control when they had to film his scenes.

Luckily, Damon was given permission to travel to Australia but first, the government officials let him know that there was one reason for the special treatment.

"There were government officials who called me and explained to me in no uncertain terms: The only reason you're getting in is because this production is creating jobs," Damon said. "Now, could the production live without me? Yeah. But you start pulling jokes away from something that's funny and eventually it's not, you know what I mean?"

The Australian government certainly wasn't joking and production on Thor 4 did create new jobs for the locals. Needless to say, it was all worth it for Damon who stayed in Australia for five months although he was able to finish filming his scenes in two days.

Thor: Love and Thunder will bring back Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson, and Jaimie Alexander. The sequel will also introduce Christian Bale as the new villain. The film is scheduled for release on May 6, 2022.
