Increased patrols after violent crime uptick led to drug, weapons arrest

KINSTON, Lenoir County —
A Kinston man is being held without bond on drug and weapons charges.

The Kinston Police Department arrested Hiyante Miller, 29, for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana after a traffic stop last week.
Miller is jailed at the Lenoir County Detention Center.
Officials said that over the past few weeks the Kinston Police Department has noticed an increase in violent crime in the city, and they have put more officers on the street with a primary focus on violent and repeat offenders.
