A 40-year-old Pensacola woman, who had been missing since Sept. 12, was found dead Sunday evening in south Alabama.
Latonya Baxter was found around 6 p.m. off of Highway 113 near Flomaton, according to the Pensacola Police Department.
Her roommate, Giles Jones, was arrested Sept. 15 on charges of premeditated first-degree murder, according to the Pensacola News Journal.
The outlet reported that Jones was arrested after Pensacola police officers inspected a home on Warwick Avenue in Pensacola, where Baxter, Jones, and Baxter’s daughter, Ja’Nay Jackson, rented rooms.
According to police, blood spatter was found in the home and in the trunk of Jones’ car. Police also allegedly found a picture of Baxter on Jones’ phone the day before she was reported missing, which showed her with “obvious signs of trauma.”
A GoFundMe has been set up for Baxter’s daughter and her family, with a set goal of $10,000.
“A caring, loving, beautiful mother, daughter, sister, cousin and friend, Latonya Antionette Baxter was taken from us due to a senseless act of violence,” said Jamie Himbrick, who set up the fundraiser for the family.
“We’re asking for any donation big, or small to help ease this very difficult time.”
Jones remains in the Escambia County Florida Jail and Pensacola police are still investigating the case.
