Gov. Phil Murphy was endorsed today by Brady PAC, the political arm of the gun control advocacy group Brady, further cementing gun control as an important issue in the campaign for governor.

“Governor Murphy has been an unwavering advocate for gun violence prevention,” said Brady PAC Political Director Ashley Lantz. “He has proven himself to be someone who keeps his word by taking decisive action to make his state a national leader in common-sense gun safety.”

The endorsement from Brady is the latest of many Murphy has received from gun control advocates, following endorsements from Moms Demand Action and Fred Guttenberg, whose daughter was murdered in the 2018 Parkland school shooting.

In campaign ads, Murphy has sought to cast his opponent, Republican nominee Jack Ciattarelli, as someone who would undo the state’s gun control laws. Ciattarelli’s official campaign website criticizes the state’s laws as “among the strictest in the nation,” and says that if elected Ciattarelli would defend “the Constitutional right of law-abiding citizens [to] keep and bear arms.”
