Charges against man upgraded to murder after victim in Georgetown shooting dies

Robert Justin Britt is wanted by the Georgetown Police Department for shooting at a man during an altercation.

GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WBTW) — Charges against a man accused of shooting another man in Georgetown on Sept. 23 have been upgraded to murder after the victim died from his injuries on Sunday, police said.

Robert Justin Britt, 41, was previously charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and possession of firearms and ammunition.

However, the victim, Raekwon Grant, 26, died on Sunday after being taken to Grand Strand Medical Center, according to Georgetown County Coroner Chase Ridgeway. He was shot in the head during the altercation with Britt in the area of Church and Stevenson streets, authorities said.

Britt is also charged with attempted murder for allegedly shooting at an 18-year-old who was driving a vehicle that Grant was in, Georgetown Police Capt. Nelson Brown said in a news release on Monday.

Britt is being held without bond in the Georgetown County Detention Center. Count on News13 for updates.
