Harry Maldonado was arrested in Manhattan around 3:30 a.m. with the aid of the U.S. Marshals and was brought back to the Bellevue Hospital Prison Ward, near the hospital at 28th Street and First Avenue.

"This individual was safely returned to custody after being apprehended this morning by our Correction Intelligence Bureau and U.S. Marshals," a DOC spokesperson confirmed.

The DOC said Maldonado entered custody on Sept. 23 for charges of attempted burglary, larceny and parole violation.

He managed to escape custody around 3:50 a.m. on Monday, reportedly last seen wearing a hospital gown, black hat and sunglasses.

"Safely monitoring those in our custody is a core part of our mission and this is extremely disturbing," DOC Commissioner Vincent Schiraldi said after he escaped. "We take escapes and attempted escapes very seriously and we are investigating exactly how this happened. Teams from our Correction Intelligence Bureau are working with NYPD to bring this individual back into custody as quickly as possible."

The department said an investigation is ongoing.
